Atlanta Magazine’s January 2023 Issue

A note from Sean McGinnis, President & Publisher:

A new year means new possibilities, and the city of Atlanta is undergoing a transformation of downtown. Exciting artist renderings depict new real estate developments and litter-free streets. But who will be included in this polished image of the city’s core? This issue will explain what is up next for downtown, who is paying for it, and how it could possibly change Atlanta.

In the spirit of new beginnings, this issue also tells the story of Abu Talib, a member of Myanmar’s Rohingya community, which is a mostly Muslim minority. Due to decades of persecution from the country’s ruling regimes, Talib endured a harrowing journey to start a new life in Clarkston. Though he now has a growing family of his own in the U.S., he worries for his family still in Myanmar and the deteriorating conditions of the Rohingya people. Read Talib’s inspiring story on how he escaped and continues to advocate for those left behind.
