A note from Sean McGinnis, President & Publisher:
We hope you are ready to eat your veggies…with a fresh and flavorful twist! To embrace the season of summer gardening and farmers’ markets, we invite you to celebrate food from the soil in our June issue. Whether you are a veggie connoisseur or a regular foodie, rest assured that you will find mouthwatering, plant-based treats in this issue that range from poke bowls to burgers (yes, burgers).
With Atlanta being the food Mecca that it is, many restaurant owners have decided to take their cuisine on the road – in the form of food trucks. However, this is not as easy of a feat as some may think with regulatory inequalities and tight restrictions placed on the vendors. We dive into the roadblocks that Atlanta’s food trucks face and how the city can make itself more hospitable to energize its food scene.
This issue also details the incredible story of the Mohammeds, an Afghan family that is building a new life in metro Atlanta. A short six months ago, they were fleeing their home after the Taliban retook Afghanistan. Now, they are picking up the pieces and navigating their new surroundings, cultures, and neighbors.
With June being Pride Month, there are many faces and organizations worthy of recognition. In this issue, we recount the story of the women who founded the Atlanta Lesbian Feminist Alliance. This month, they will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the organization’s launch.
The time has finally come to recognize our 2022 Women Making a Mark honorees. These women have each impacted the Atlanta community through their leadership, dedication, and compassion – we invite you to celebrate them with us.
